Lam Research beat on profit and revenue last night and fell 7.2% in after-hours trading. By the time Seoul closed this morning, the bill had been paid where Lam's machines are bought: SK Hynix −5.5%, Samsung −4.0%, the Kospi −3.5%. One session earlier, Korea had rebounded 2.6% into the heaviest reporting night of the quarter.

The night that graded the beats

Five companies reported after Wednesday's US close. Four beat the profit forecast — Lam Research, IBM, Tesla and SAP. The market sold three of them anyway.

Lam dropped 7.2% after hours despite its tenth profit beat in eleven reports. IBM fell 4.6% after beating on both lines. Tesla, whose delivery numbers had been public for three weeks, slipped 3.3% after a call that promised Cybercab sales by year-end.

The two green prints: Meta, up 2.2% on record revenue while lifting its AI spending plan to roughly $145 billion — and SAP, up 1.8% after its quarterly statement. Yesterday we counted sixteen beats and six rewards across eighteen measured reactions. Last night extended the pattern: when good numbers stop producing gains, the news is already owned.
